Graag nodigen wij u uit op de lezing Van zelf‑identificerende overtuigingen naar polarisatie door Filip Buekens, professor taalfilosofie en analytische filosofie aan de KU Leuven.

Waarom lopen sommige discussies zo snel vast? Omdat we bepaalde overtuigingen niet aanhangen omdat ze waar zijn, maar omdat ze bijdragen aan ons zelfbeeld, onze identiteit en ons prestige binnen de groep waartoe we willen behoren. Dat zijn de zelf‑identificerende overtuigingen (ZIO’s). Kritiek daarop voelt als een persoonlijke aanval. Zo ontstaan harde wij‑zij‑tegenstellingen en groeit polarisatie.

In deze lezing toont Filip Buekens hoe ZIO’s werken, waarom ze zo’n sterke motor zijn achter onder meer woke‑denken en klimaatalarmisme, en hoe ze het publieke debat verstikken.

Graag nodigen wij u uit op de gratis online boekpresentatie van Progressive Myths  van Michael Huemer, professor filosofie aan de Universiteit van Colorado, op donderdag 16 oktober 2025 om 19.30 u. CEST (UTC+2). De presentatie is in het Engels. 

Huemer schreef zijn boek omdat hij vindt dat de waarheid ertoe doet. Want dat is hét probleem vandaag: heel wat progressieve standpunten zijn gebaseerd op feitelijk foutieve informatie. En de mainstream media, academici en politici verspreiden die gretig mee.

Toch is het boek - in tegenstelling tot veel andere - geen conservatieve aanval op progressieve waarden. Het is een nuchtere analyse van controleerbare feiten.

We would like to invite you to the free online presentation of Progressive Myths, a book by Michael Huemer, Professor of Philosophy at the University of Colorado. The presentation will take place on Thursday, 16 October 2025 at 7:30 pm  CEST (UTC+2) and will be conducted in English.

Huemer wrote his book because he believes that truth matters. The problem today is that many progressive views are based on factually incorrect information. The mainstream media, academics and politicians eagerly spread this misinformation.

However, unlike many other books, this one is not a conservative attack on progressive values. It is a sober analysis of verifiable facts.
